Perry County relies on a network of volunteer fire departments to protect its residents and 386 square miles of territory. Five volunteer departments serve communities across the county, staffed by dedicated neighbors who answer the call when emergencies arise.
The Tell City Volunteer Fire Department, under the direction of Fire Chief Greg Linne and Assistant Chief John Kleeman, maintains a roster of 22 firefighters and 6 reserves. Each firefighter must pass Indiana Mandatory Firefighter certification requirements and complete ongoing education activities to stay current with their skills.
Other volunteer departments serving Perry County include Anderson Township Volunteer Fire Department, Cannelton Volunteer Fire Department, Central Perry Volunteer Fire Department in Leopold, Rome Volunteer Fire Department, and Troy Volunteer Fire Department. The Central Perry department protects the small towns of Leopold and Derby and responds from two stations. Perry County Emergency Management Agency Fire Rescue in Tell City also plays a role in the county’s emergency response system.
